Have you ever noticed small particles of dust fluttering around your living room? Look no further, the culprit is under your feet! Your carpet… Yes, it is it which is in question: it is a nest of dust and mites.
If we had already given you some tips for getting rid of dust
mites here, find out today how to keep your carpets fresh and clean in all
circumstances!
Daily
maintenance, a priority!
Your rugs are the perfect allies to easily decorate your interior,
but it is important to take good care of them so that they keep their shine
from the first days!
The weekly maintenance of your carpet is therefore the routine
step. Vacuum about twice a week in brushing mode to remove dust, mites, and
other crumbs of all kinds that may have lodged in the pile of your carpet.
However, if your carpet is old or fragile (or both ?) avoid the brush mode of
the vacuum cleaner and prefer a classic, softer vacuum.
The
big spring cleaning!
Even if you take the utmost care of your carpet, sometimes it is a
good idea to give it a deep cleaning to remove dirt. The ideal frequency is
once a year… So mark your calendars to schedule your annual carpet Cleaning in Sydney!
Rule number one: never wash your carpet with plenty of water! This
could create halos on its surface and therefore ruin it.
As you all expect, white vinegar is the solution to effectively
and naturally cleaning your carpet. For a 100% ecological carpet spray, all you
need is 20 cl of white vinegar, 1 liter of sparkling water, and one or two
drops of essential oil of your choice to give it a good smell. Moisten your
carpet with the solution of water and vinegar, leave to act for 30 min then
rinse, always moistening the carpet with water.
Pro Tip: It is important to test your cleaning solution before
applying it to your carpet. Some carpets can be damaged and pilling by the
action of even natural cleaning products. So be sure to test your product on a
small part of your carpet, before proceeding to complete cleaning.
The same is true for the color of your carpet: some cleaning
products can damage the colors of textiles, and even cause them to rub off
between them ... Do a test with a small cotton swab soaked in your cleaning
solution: if the color rubs off on it. when you rub it on the carpet, it's
better to forgo wet cleaning and opt for dry cleaning or just vacuuming
regularly!
Different
type of carpet
There is a multitude of different rugs out there, and each one
needs special attention.
Berber rugs
For example, Berber rugs are the easiest rugs to maintain! You can
vacuum them regularly without a brush and in the direction of the fibers so as
not to damage their shimmering patterns. To restore color, sprinkle baking
soda, leave for a few minutes, then vacuum your carpet. Here it is like new!
Very fashionable at the moment, Berber rugs and their unique patterns have a
foolproof resistance: good to know for a future investment!
Synthetic rugs
For carpets made of synthetic materials like polyester or polypropylene,
a spray of water and vinegar, or water and baking soda will do the trick. Be
sure to dry it thoroughly and do not expose it to direct sunlight!
Natural fiber rugs
Finally, for natural fiber rugs, several techniques must be taken
into account. Animal fibers can be cleaned with a solution of vinegar and black
soap. After application rinses the carpet and dry with a hairdryer or a dry
cloth. For plant fibers like sisal and jute, scrub your carpet with cold water
and mild soap or vinegar, rinse, then allow to dry well.
